Agragamee is a well-known NGO in Kashipur under Rayagada district. It has been working for the poor people for many years. In the year 2024, this NGO started a one-year health programme in nearby villages. Our workers went to the villages and had meetings with the people. We found that many people were suffering from malaria, dengue, diarrhoea etc. So, we organized health camps every month in the villages. In the camps, we told the people about the causes of diseases and how to prevent them. We gave free medicines and free treatment to them. We also told them to keep their houses and surroundings clean. We hope that their health will become better day by day.

Dengue : A Growing Menace

Berhampur, 19 Feb. : Dengue is spreading very fast in some parts of Berhampur for the last few days. Some people of Ward No. 42 are suffering from dengue and they are admitted to M.K.C.G. Medical College and Hospital and City Hospital, Berhampur. This has become a big worry for the health officers and the Municipal Corporation of Berhampur. All the health workers of the city are trying their best to stop the disease. They have set up Dengue Prevention Camps in the affected areas and are making people aware. They are teaching people how to fight against dengue. They are explaining that dengue virus spreads to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. It is hoped that the people of the area will be free from dengue very soon.

Subject: A Report on the Activities of NSS Unit in a Village Camp

A one-week literacy camp was organized by the NSS wing of our college at Haripur village to remove illiteracy from the village. First, all the members of our unit went to the village and did a survey to find out who cannot read and write. Then it was decided that we will conduct classes in the village every evening for the illiterate people. The classes started the next day. Books, notebooks, slates etc. given by the Rotary Club, Bhubaneswar were given to the adult learners. The members of our unit went to the classes every evening and taught them alphabets and numbers. At the end of the camp, we requested two educated young men of the village to continue the classes.

Subject: A Report on a Fire Accident

Tribal Village Burnt to Ashes

Baliguda, 19 Feb. : A very sad fire accident took place in Sarabadi, a village near Daringbadi of Kandhamal district. It is said that the fire started from the house of one Nakul Digal. Within a moment the fire spread to other houses. By the time the fire brigade came to the village, many houses were already burnt to ashes. The scene was very painful. Women and children were crying loudly and were very sad. It is said that paddy and other crops, clothes, farming tools and other household things were fully burnt in the fire. Luckily no one died. A few people got burn injuries. Some cows and other domestic animals were also burnt. The district administration is taking steps to give help to the affected villagers.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan : Progress and Prospects

Rourkela, 19 Feb: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a national mission of India was started on 2nd October 2014. Since then many steps have been taken to keep Rourkela city neat and clean. But, it was known from some trusted sources that people of some areas of the city are not giving importance to cleanliness. So a team of reporters moved around the city for the last seven days to see the response of people towards the mission. In some parts of the city we saw heaps of garbage lying on the road. In slum areas there are community toilets, but some people were seen going outside for open defecation. The team has requested all such people to follow the basic rules of cleanliness. It is hoped that the condition in these areas will become better soon.
